The Jameis Winston hype train was rolling in Tampa as the Bucs’ rookie quarterback opened training camp, but the same Marcus Mariota vehicle is making up for lost time. According to the Tennessean Mariota completed another practice without an interception, making it five straight sessions in which the Titans’ rookie quarterback has avoided being picked off. Moreover, Mariota is doing it without the help of Delanie Walker and Dorial Green-Beckham, who are battling the dropsies, and without assistance from the drone that’s been filming camp from above. Tennessee’s drone was grounded due to issues with the FAA. Evidently, Ghost Rider, the pattern was full.
When discussing the Colts’ embarrassment of riches at wide receiver it’s often Duron Carter who gets lost in the shuffle. However, the son of Hall-of-Famer Cris isn’t escaping the notice of Indy’s offensive coordinator. Pep Hamilton told NFL Network, “Every day he makes a play that makes you say ‘Wow’.” The key for Carter will be getting enough opportunities to make Pep say “Wow” with TY Hilton, Andre Johnson, Phillip Dorsett, and Donte Moncrief blocking his path to playing time.

From the “it’s never too early to be worried” department, LeSean McCoy has yet to take part in team drills this week due to a toe injury. You may recall McCoy missed time with a toe injury in Philadelphia, so it’s a bit disconcerting to see him shelved for the same reason in Buffalo. Again, too early to worry, but…
The Jaguars were hoping to provide Blake Bortles with a full array of offensive weapons this year, but for now they’ll be without at least one of them. Oft-injured wide receiver Marqise Lee suffered a hamstring injury during Wednesday’s practice, sending him to the sidelines once again. “We’ll just wait and see to what degree it is and where we go from there,” Jacksonville coach Gus Bradley told ESPN. “I know for him it’s disappointing. He really wanted to go. Fortunately it’s this time of year and fortunately it’s not anything season-ending or anything like that.” Lee battled through hamstring and knee injuries as a rookie last year and earlier this week reduced his workload to help him recover from a knee injury suffered during OTAs.
With Arian Foster expected to be placed on injured reserve/designated for return the Texans have a void at running back. Pierre Thomas was the most intriguing fantasy candidate to fill that void, but after a reportedly good/great workout and interview with the team Thomas and the Texans could not agree on a contract. Bummer for those in a slow draft yesterday who pounced on Thomas when word came he was working out for the Texans.
Finally, the Ohio State University temporarily rescinded a five-year ban on Terrelle Pryor making appearances on campus with the Browns slated for a scrimmage at Ohio Stadium on Friday. However, it’s looking now as if Pryor won’t be participating in the scrimmage anyway. The quarterback-turned-wide receiver suffered a hamstring injury during Tuesday’s practice and Browns coach Mike Pettine told cleveland.com that he was leaning “towards the doubtful side” with regards to Pryor’s availability for the scrimmage. Probably wouldn’t be a good idea to have him working the souvenir jersey booth outside the stadium, either.
