Houston Texans QB Tom Savage (concussion) did not participate in practice Thursday, Dec. 14.

Huddle Up: Savage is not expected to play this week, so T.J. Yates probably will be the starting quarterback against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Owners in all leagues should avoid the Texans quarterback situation.

Houston Texans QB Tom Savage (concussion) did not practice Wednesday, Dec. 13.

Huddle Up: Savage is expected to be sidelined again in Week 15, so T.J. Yates is likely be under center against the stout defense of the Jaguars.

  • Posted: 12/11/2017 7:35am ET

Houston Texans QB Tom Savage (concussion) is unlikely to start in Week 15, according to head coach Bill O'Brien.

Huddle Up: T.J. Yates is not worth the start in fantasy against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

  • Posted: 12/10/2017 12:20pm ET

Updating a previous report, Houston Texans QB Tom Savage (concussion) suffered a concussion in Week 14 and will not return to the game.

Huddle Up: T.J. Yates would take over as the starting quarterback if Savage misses any games but should be avoided in all fantasy leagues.

  • Posted: 12/10/2017 11:32am ET

Houston Texans QB Tom Savage (undisclosed) was taken to the locker room after suffering an undisclosed injury in Week 14.

Huddle Up: Owners will need to monitor the situation to see the severity of Savage's injury. Owners probably should avoid whoever the Texans quarterback is in all fantasy leagues.

  • Posted: 12/3/2017 6:13pm ET

Houston Texans QB Tom Savage completed 31 of his 49 pass attempts for 365 yards, one touchdown and one interception in the Week 13 game against the Tennessee Titans.

Huddle Up: The good news is that Savage only committed one turnover, but the results in the win-loss column were the same. Despite the 300-yard game he isn't worthy of fantasy consideration outside of two-quarterback formats.

  • Posted: 11/28/2017 10:08pm ET

Houston Texans head coach Bill O'Brien said QB Tom Savage needs to stop turning the ball over or the team will 'have to go in a different direction.' Savage has 10 turnovers in four games since taking over for injured QB Deshaun Watson (knee).

Huddle Up: If O'Brien really benched Savage it would mean the return of T.J. Yates, who last played in 2015, and that seems a long shot since the former at least theoretically holds some potential. It's an easier decision for fantasy owners who should keep far away from both of them.

  • Posted: 11/28/2017 12:08pm ET

Houston Texans QB Tom Savage will continue to be the starter as head coach Bill O'Brien said he is not considering a quarterback change.

Huddle Up: Savage has struggled mightily since taking over for Deshaun Watson four weeks ago. He has thrown five interceptions in his last three games and is averaging just 230.5 yards per game over the last four weeks. Continue to avoid him like the plague.

  • Posted: 11/27/2017 8:39pm ET

Houston Texans QB Tom Savage went 22-for-37 for 252 yards and two interceptions against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 12.

Huddle Up: Savage has thrown for at least 200 yards in each of the last four games but also has thrown five interceptions in the last three games. He should be avoided in all fantasy leagues moving forward.

  • Posted: 11/19/2017 6:08pm ET

Houston Texans QB Tom Savage completed 22 of his 32 pass attempts for 230 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in the Week 11 win against the Arizona Cardinals.

Huddle Up: Savage did an OK job of limiting his mistakes against a good Arizona defense, and he was sacked just once although he did lose a fumble in addition to his interception. Despite the decent numbers he remains more of a QB2 heading into Week 12 against the Ravens on Monday Night Football.

  • Posted: 11/17/2017 2:04pm ET

Houston Texans QB Tom Savage (shoulder) practiced in full Friday, Nov. 17, and he was removed from the injury report ahead of the Week 11 game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Huddle Up: Savage will be facing a surprisingly porous Cardinals pass defense, ranking 23rd in the NFL with 245.1 yards per game and 16 touchdowns. However, they have a pretty strong pass rush, sacking the QB 22 times through nine games, and Savage is without Will Fuller (ribs). Despite the favorable matchup his fantasy ceiling remains rather limited.

  • Posted: 11/16/2017 2:01pm ET

Houston Texans QB Tom Savage (shoulder) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Nov. 16.

Huddle Up: Savage hasn't been eye-gougingly terrible since taking over for Deshaun Watson, but he's been close to that. He limits the ceiling of DeAndre Hopkins and the rest of the offense, but guys like Hopkins and Lamar Miller are still automatic starts. Savage, on the other hand, cannot be trusted as a starter no matter who he's playing.

  • Posted: 11/15/2017 3:11pm ET

Houston Texans QB Tom Savage (shoulder) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Nov. 15.

Huddle Up: Savage has thrown for 440 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions the last two weeks and will continue to be the starting quarterback for the foreseeable future. He will be facing a solid Arizona Cardinals defense and should be avoided in all leagues.

  • Posted: 11/13/2017 9:42am ET

Houston Texans QB Tom Savage will start in Week 11 against the Arizona Cardinals, according to head coach Bill O'Brien.

Huddle Up: Savage has no business in your fantasy lineups outside of a fringe play in two-QB leagues.

  • Posted: 11/10/2017 9:35pm ET

Houston Texans QB Tom Savage had a full week to practice with the first-team offense ahead of the Week 10 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams, and head coach Bill O'Brien said it is a 'big deal' for Savage to have that practice time under his belt.

Huddle Up: The extra practice time doesn't change the fact that Savage his zero fantasy appeal in Week 10.

  • Posted: 11/5/2017 3:20pm ET

Houston Texans QB Tom Savage completed just 19 of his 44 pass attempts for 219 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Week 9 game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Huddle Up: Savage struggled mightily and he also lost a fumble on the final play of regulation when the team still had a chance to win the game. He is only worth consideration as a QB2 in deeper fantasy leagues, as he still has dynamic playmakers in Will Fuller and DeAndre Hopkins.

  • Posted: 11/2/2017 2:55pm ET

Houston Texans QB Tom Savage will be the starting quarterback against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 9 because of QB Deshaun Watson's (knee) injury.

Huddle Up: Savage was replaced by Watson in Week 1 but likely will be the starter for the rest of the season. He does not have much fantasy value and probably will hurt the value of DeAndre Hopkins and Will Fuller.

  • Posted: 9/13/2017 3:16pm ET

Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson (ankle) and QB Tom Savage (finger) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Sept. 13, and are not on the injury report for Week 2.

Huddle Up: Watson is expected to start the game, but the team has not named the starter at this point. Both Savage and Watson had problems in Week 1 and neither should be a starting option in any fantasy leagues.

  • Posted: 9/11/2017 3:36pm ET

Houston Texans QB Tom Savage (finger) fully participated in the team's walkthrough Monday, Sept. 11.

Huddle Up: Savage was pulled from his start in Week 1 but is still a candidate to start in Week 2. Owners in all leagues should look for other options to use and should avoid Savage.

  • Posted: 9/10/2017 5:38pm ET

Houston Texans QB Tom Savage was benched in favor of rookie QB DeShaun Watson in Week 1 against the Jaguars, but head coach Bill O'Brien said Sunday, Sept. 10, he would evaluated game film before deciding on a starting quarterback for Week 2.

Huddle Up: The Texans have a short week to prepare for the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday, so a decision will be made quickly. Savage was atrocious, while Watson led the team a bit better. It's likely Watson is under center on Thursday, but wait for official word. Neither is particularly attractive from a fantasy perspective at this point.

  • Posted: 8/26/2017 9:08pm ET

Houston Texans QB Tom Savage completed 10 of his 16 passes for 79 yards in a 13-0 preseason loss to the New Orleans Saints Saturday, Aug. 26.

Huddle Up: Savage didn't have DeAndre Hopkins or Braxton Miller at his disposal, which certainly didn't help his cause. He will enter the season as the starter, but even with all his weapons at his disposal, he doesn't need to be drafted.

  • Posted: 8/22/2017 9:11am ET

Houston Texans QB Tom Savage has enjoyed 'a good camp' and will begin the season as the starting quarterback, according to head coach Bill O'Brien.

Huddle Up: Savage has never been able to stay healthy for any length of time and has rookie Deshaun Watson behind them on the depth chart, so this will continue to be an ongoing story. With that said, the veteran (17-for-20) has been much sharper than the rookie (18-for-35) in August. Nevertheless, Savage is a low-end QB2 at best for fantasy purposes.

  • Posted: 8/19/2017 9:50pm ET

Houston Texans QB Tom Savage completed eight of his nine passes for 98 yards and a touchdown in a 27-23 win over the New England Patriots in the preseason Saturday, Aug. 19.

Huddle Up: Savage was on the mark in this one, and he remains in line to open the year as the starter. He could be a low-end QB2, but with Deshaun Watson waiting in the wings, Savage might not even be under center all season.

  • Posted: 8/7/2017 1:25pm ET

Houston Texans QB Tom Savage will be under center for the first snap of Houston's first preseason game. Head coach Bill O'Brien doesn't know yet how long Savage or any of the quarterbacks will play.

Huddle Up: Savage appears to have the edge in the quarterback battle with Deshaun Watson. It's a battle that could be fought up until the last preseason game, though. Either way, both guys should only be drafted as backup fantasy quarterbacks.

  • Posted: 7/29/2017 6:26pm ET

Houston Texans QB Tom Savage and QB Deshaun Watson won't be used in a two-quarterback system, head coach Bill O'Brien said Saturday, July 29. 'I'm not going to alternate quarterbacks in and out of there,' O'Brien said. 'I don't think that's good for the team.'

Huddle Up: Savage is still the frontrunner to open the season as the starter, but Watson is the future and has the much higher ceiling for fantasy purposes. Make sure to stash Watson in all keeper formats.

  • Posted: 7/1/2017 6:41pm ET

Houston Texans QB Tom Savage is ahead of QB Deshaun Watson in 'how he functions with the offense' heading into training camp, according to head coach Bill O'Brien.

Huddle Up: Savage's experience could make him the starter in Week 1, but he really isn't worth your time in fantasy formats. On the other hand, Watson should be stashed in all keeper formats. He has long-term QB1 potential.

  • Posted: 6/16/2017 1:24pm ET

Houston Texans QB Tom Savage is still considered the leading candidate for the starting No. 1 quarterback but will have to earn the job during training camp, according to head coach Bill O'Brien.

Huddle Up: The Texans selected Deshaun Watson in the draft, but Savage likely will begin the 2017 season as the starting quarterback. Savage threw for 461 yards in his three games this past season and has been working on his chemistry with the receivers during offseason workouts. Owners in all leagues should avoid Savage in all drafts.

  • Posted: 5/8/2017 7:20pm ET

Houston Texans QB Tom Savage said 'it doesn't matter if a coach says you're the starter' and that he will go out there and 'play like I have to play to keep this job.' He added: 'You have to perform. I know that, and that's the attitude I have.'

Huddle Up: Savage has the exact mentality he should be having as a three-year veteran who has never held a full-time starting job in the NFL, but with his limited ceiling, he won't be a recommended option out of the gate for any fantasy leagues. The 27-year-old does have some fine weapons around him, though, so it might not be a bad idea to monitor him through the beginning of the upcoming campaign, just in case quarterback help is desired.

  • Posted: 5/4/2017 6:32pm ET

Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson will have a chance to compete with QB Tom Savage for the starting quarterback job, general manager Rick Smith said Thursday, May 4.

Huddle Up: Savage has to be considered the frontrunner to break camp as the starter, but if Watson were to win the job, he would be worth a flier as a low-end QB2 in redraft leagues. Watson has even more appeal in keeper formats, and he should be in the conversation to be the first quarterback selected in rookie drafts.

  • Posted: 4/27/2017 9:02pm ET

Houston Texans QB Tom Savage will be the starting quarterback in 2017, according to head coach Bill O'Brien and general manager Rick Smith, and QB Deshaun Watson will come in and learn.

Huddle Up: The news take a little bit of shine off Watson, but he wasn't going to be a fantasy starter as a rookie anyway. His value is in his long-term upside, so you will want to grab him in keeper formats and rookie drafts.

  • Posted: 4/4/2017 7:07am ET

Houston Texans QB Tom Savage will move forward as the starter, but the team is likely to draft a quarterback.

Huddle Up: Savage was unspectacular in his short stint starting last season, and he'll enter the season as a midrate QB2 in fantasy.

  • Posted: 12/29/2016 5:17pm ET

Houston Texans QB Tom Savage (knee) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Dec. 29.

Huddle Up: In two games since taking over as quarterback, Savage still hasn't tossed a touchdown. He can be avoided in Week 17.

  • Posted: 12/18/2016 3:58pm ET

Houston Texans QB Tom Savage came off the bench in the Week 15 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in place of the ineffective QB Brock Osweiler. He completed 23 of his 36 pass attempts for 260 yards, leading the team to a comeback victory.

Huddle Up: It's purely speculation, but it's very likely Savage earned himself a start in Week 16 against the Cincinnati Bengals. However, he is only worth fantasy consideration in deeper leagues using two starting signal callers.
