FANTASY FOOTBALL SITE INFORMATION

History of The Huddle & The Huddle Team

Founded in 1997 and going into its 12th year online, The Huddle was an outlet for a couple of obsessed football fans to supply their analysis and writings covering the greatest sport ever played. The site was intended to be a sort of gathering spot between the sidelines and actual game. A place for the fantasy football hobbyist to visit and exchange views, pick up some new tips and strategies or get a different slant on a particular player. The site was honored that first year by being voted the #2 fantasy football web site in the Annual Internet Sports Awards.

Following that first year, and for five years in a row The Huddle was voted the #1 fantasy football web site in the Annual Internet Sports Awards. Through our writers, our content, our partnerships, and just as importantly the many "huddlers" that have been with us for years, we bring together a full team that makes fantasy football a fun, challenging and rewarding hobby.

The Huddle has experienced phenomenal growth since that initial season in 1997, growing to become the most popular fantasy football destination on the Internet in 2000. Always the innovators and never the followers, The Huddle lead the fantasy football industry into the future by becoming the first and most successful subscription fantasy football site in 2001. Since that time thousands of new "huddlers" join our ranks every season.

The Huddle provides articles, analysis, news and player rankings for draft help each summer, but it does not stop there. For each week of the season, you will find insightful, helpful columns and articles to assist fantasy team owners in managing their team. With player projections, game predictions, starting lineup advice, roster recommendations and breaking news, there is something for everyone each week of the regular season. Before the game starts, The Huddle is the place to be.

Huddle Co-founder David Dorey has been involved in fantasy football since 1991 and along with Whitney Walters has been bringing The Huddle to the Internet since 1997. David was the original creator of many of the types of fantasy football analysis now common throughout the industry which includes schedule strength by position, consistency rankings and numerous statistical measurements.

David has been offering game predictions and player projections since 1996. His game predictions are always among the best available anywhere every season and he’s consistently been among the top in the industry in evaluating players and putting together fantasy teams. David is the current leading expert in ranking players according to the Fantasy Index magazine and has won numerous leagues and awards including the national The Draft 2006 competition.

He has been published on numerous other web sites outside of The Huddle and is the author of Fantasy Football: The Next Level which was published by Warner Books in August of 2007. A guest on over 30 radio stations, he is a member of both the Pro Football Writers of America and the Fantasy Sports Trade Association.

Huddle Co-founder Whitney Walters has been active in the fantasy sports industry for eleven years. His and David's vision in 1997 for fantasy football information on the Internet has played a key role in shaping how the industry delivers that information on the Web today.

Whitney's primary roles at The Huddle focus on managing the business and designing and maintaining the web sites. He also continues to produce the weekly Start/Bench List (an Internet original) and a few other tidbits of content for The Huddle and their Fantasy Football Handbook. Over his career he's been featured on FOX Sports and numerous other web sites and print publications, even finding some time to guest on a few sports radio shows across the country. He's the reigning two year champion of the SOFA League, a collection of some of the top talent in the fantasy football industry.

Since establishing the Bithead Fantasy Football League in 1990 with 11 co-workers, Whitney's been either a league commissioner or fantasy player for the past 18 years. He prides himself on always running his leagues with integrity and always being competitive as a team owner. He rarely has a losing season (only four ever) and has brought home a few championships along the way.

Whitney is a member of The Fantasy Sports Trade Association Board of Directors and the Pro Football Writers of America. Prior to obtaining the dream of creating The Huddle, Whitney worked in the information processing industry as a Systems Engineer for Electronic Data Systems and as a Senior Programming Consultant for IBM IT Services and the State of California.

John Tuvey
Send John a message

Born and raised in Minnesota, John Tuvey was scarred for life at an early age by multiple Vikings Super Bowl losses. While the anguish that accompanies the purple kool-aid continues, John has found other football triumphs to call his own. He played sparingly during four seasons at St. John’s University under the legendary John Gagliardi, using his free time to discover fantasy football. Since forming his first league in 1988 John has played in countless leagues, won multiple championships, and developed a serious man-crush on Eddie George. For the past decade John has helped others win their leagues as well, sharing his fantasy football thoughts and opinions through a variety of outlets including Yahoo!, AOL Sports, and Fanball as well as a weekly radio show in Minneapolis and other assorted radio appearances. A 2007 finalist for the Fantasy Sports Writer Association’s Fantasy Football Writer of the Year award, John brings experience, passion, and a belief that “it all starts up front” to the Huddle’s team of analysts.

Scott is editor of The Sports Page, a weekly sports newspaper based in Dallas (www.sportspagedallas.com). He’s also in his rookie year with The Huddle, but has been a fantasy football junkie since 1992. A member of the North Texas Fantasy Football League, Boyter has two championships and three second place finishes, one of which occurred as a result of the infamous Vinny Testaverde quarterback sneak “touchdown” in 1998. He bleeds blue and silver as a lifelong Cowboy fan -- try not to hold that against him.

Mike enters his third year with The Huddle after being acquired during the 2004 supplemental draft for new writers.  In addition to authoring his weekly Running Backs Rankings column and the player biographies featured in The Huddle's Fantasy University feature,  he has written articles for The Huddle's Fantasy Football Handbook magazine for the last three summers, including "2006 Coaching Changes", "The New World of Tight Ends", "Rookie Running Backs" and the annual "Fantasy Bureau of Investigation: Persons of Interest".  Winner of the inaugural 2005 Top Gun Huddle Writer's League,  his passion for football has been the driving force behind a fantasy football pedigree that boasts of seven points overall championships, three Super Bowls wins and two Super Bowl runner-ups in three different leagues since he first took the plunge in 1995.  In addition to stints with the Pittsburgh Penguins and New Jersey Nets, he spent one summer honing his craft in the bowels of Giants Stadium for the New York/New Jersey Knights of the now-defunct World League of American Football, receiving pearls of wisdom from the godfather of the Run-N-Shoot, then Knights head coach, Mouse Davis.  Before joining The Huddle, Mike authored the weekly Fearless Forecast, a blend of game prediction and fantasy lineup recommendations, for both FoxSports.com's NFL page and collegefootballnews.com.

Kevin Ratterree
Send Kevin a message

Kevin Ratterree is a 13 year veteran of fantasy football, and a lifetime writer. Kevin is a good example of what happens when an angry young man matures into a bitter old man. He makes no apologies for his writing style. Claims it's "the voices in his head" that type out the spiteful and venomous words that make up Commentary From the Edge. Kevin learned his chops on his own short lived and ill-advised fantasy site (Fantasy Edge) R.I.P. but quickly found that running a site is too much like an actual job, except he didn't get paid. Kevin is the guy in your fantasy league that always makes the playoffs but hardly ever wins a championship. His teams are famous for leading the league in points only to fade during the playoffs. He loves the Chiefs but has accepted in his heart that they will never, ever win a championship again, and apparently according to this photo he may be in the witness protection program.

Paul Sandy
Send Paul a message

Paul is a native of Wisconsin and was baptized into the Green Bay Packer religion soon after leaving the womb. Although he has never personally worn a foam wedge of cheese on his head, he fully supports those who choose to do so. Since graduating from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul (Min.) with a Journalism degree, Paul has written advertising copy for a variety of high-tech clients. In 1999, he penned fantasy football draft strategy articles for ffinformer.com and is excited to get back into fantasy football writing. Paul is commissioner of the Beer and Bratwurst League, which has been in existence since 1992. He hates domed stadiums, the stud running back theory and sticky toddlers. When it comes to life and fantasy football, he will try anything twice; this includes drafting Fred Taylor. Of all the writers at The Huddle, Paul is the smartest and best looking.

Darin Tietgen
Send Darin a message

Darin brings nearly 11 years' fantasy sports experience to The Huddle. Born and raised in Southern California, but he's an avid Chicago sports fan. Darin has been a contender in a long-standing fantasy league that started on the back of a napkin in South Dakota in the late 1980's for several years, taking home the giant gold football trophy once, thanks in part to Clinton Portis and DeShaun Foster. He has been commissioner of this long-standing league twice, each time injecting new life into the league. He also runs another "local" league, which he has won three times out of seven years in the league's existence. Darin also has a handful of fantasy basketball and baseball championships under his belt. He has been featured on ESPN.com's String Music, and has been a grand prize winner on ESPN.com's fantasy basketball.

Tim Van Prooyen
Send Tim a message

Tim is entering his 12th year writing and 14th year playing/strategizing fantasy football.  He’s specialized in keeper leagues and draft strategies much of his career while writing for Fantasy Insights.  It was his knack for building winning teams around successful wide receivers however that caught the eye of The Huddle brass while competing in the Huddle’s SOFA league.  This year he brings that wide receiver specialty to The Huddle. Tim is a member of the Fantasy Sports Writers Association and is the co-founder/owner of the Totally Unnecessary Roughness Fantasy (T.U.R.F.) Football League. He's been published in numerous magazines, is former senior writer and editor for esportsmediagroup.com (formerly e-sports.com), and brings a long list of other credits and championships to the table, including: three time SOFA Champion, two time Wannabe Sports Keeper League Champion, five time Wannabe Sports Redraft League Champion, two time T.U.R.F. Football League Champion. Tim was born and raised in northern Michigan and is one of the few die-hard Detroit Lion fans that actually will admit it.  He’s been married for 14 years, has two sons ages 13 and 11 (who each began playing fantasy football at age 10), and is a proud 14 year member of the United States Air Force.
