Player Change Now Date
Numerous Wide Receivers NA 08-31-08
As always, the purge to 53 man rosters had a big effect at the lowest levels of the wideout rankings.
Player Change Now Date
Chad Ocho Cinco 20 08-30-08
Between a torn labrum and now changing his name, Ocho Cinco 2008 just smacks of someone to avoid in drafts. He's no less egotistical and yet much less healthy.
Player Change Now Date
Brandon Marshall 14 08-30-08
His suspension is now just one game -do NOT let that bother you. Marshall is the best weapon in Denver and is Cultler's favorite receiver.
Player Change Now Date
Drew Carter NR 08-24-08
Carter was making moves on a starting job with the Raiders until injuring his knee last night. He is expected to miss the entire season.
Player Change Now Date
PHI Wideouts NA 08-21-08
Just when you drafted Kevin Curtis, he suffers a sports hernia with an "undetermined" return date. It will be weeks at the least and could end up IR depending on how well he recovers. That shifts the depth chart around a bit in Philly and likely helps out DeSean Jackson the most. He is far too small to be a starting wideout but he evidently has not gotten that memo since he's been sharp in preseason games.
Player Change Now Date
CIN Wideouts NA 08-21-08
The Bengals signed Chris Henry again but he cannot play for the first four games because of his most recent suspension. That only muddies up the #3 picture in CIN that may offer very little fantasy production this year.
Player Change Now Date
NYJ Wideouts NA 08-21-08
Just a minor tweak to reflect that Coles has not been happy and has not been a "team player" with the addition of Favre (and release of Pennington). Cotchery is fast becoming the safer bet though do not underestimate what Coles could do with a strong-armed quarterback.
Player Change Now Date
49ers Wideouts NA 08-17-08
The rookie Josh Morgan gets a bump up with impressive training camp and preseason games. It is still a mishmash in San Francisco and no wideout is likely to post big numbers but Morgan is making a name on a team desperately searching for anyone to step up.
Player Change Now Date
Broncos Wideouts NA 08-17-08
Other than Brandon Marshall who missed the first couple of games, the depth charts are ever changing in Denver for wideouts. What cannot be refuted is that the rookie Eddie Royal has looked and played better than any of the other veterans. Royal has more upside and should be the second Denver wideout taken in a dynasty league. He just continues to impress.
Player Change Now Date
Atlanta Wideouts NA 08-17-08
Laurent Robinson has not been practicing and has been losing out to Michael Jenkins who has looked better. Robinson is still the better bet to remain the #2 but Jenkins is buying himself some playing time.
Player Change Now Date
Detroit Wideouts NA 08-17-08
Calvin Johnson has looked incredible in both preseason games and has owned the first drive against the #1 defense. The better he does, the more it will detract from Roy Williams.
Player Change Now Date
Seahawks Wideouts NA 08-12-08
Bobby Engram has a cracked bone in his shoulder and will miss four to six weeks. That digs at least a couple of weeks into the regular season and there's no telling how healed he will be at first. Engram is also one of the oldest wideouts in the NFL and starting out with an injury is not welcomed. Nate Burleson gets a slight bump up as does Obamanu. Courtney Taylor may become a bigger issue as well though with minimal fantasy value.
Player Change Now Date
Robert Meacham 49 08-11-08
The first round pick of the Saints in 2007 never played thanks to a host of injuries but he is quickly making his name known again when he had four catches for 129 yards and a score against the Cardinals. He has been impressive in camp and now in a game. David Patten remains the starting flanker but Meacham is wrapping up the #3 and could end up as the #2 which was the intention when he was drafted last year.
Player Change Now Date
NY Jets wideouts NA 08-07-08
The addition of Brett Favre should impact the wideouts more than any other position on the team. Cotchery and Coles still have to gain chemistry in a hurry with Favre but it is a clear upgrade over Pennington or Clemens.
Player Change Now Date
Broncos wideouts NA 08-06-08
The suspension of Brandon Marshall for two or three games obviously depresses his totals and boosts both Darrell Jackson and Keary Colbert who should both start in those games. Eddie Royal has also been looking good in camp and could be making a move on the #3 or #4 spot on the depth chart.
Player Change Now Date
Dolphins wideouts NA 08-06-08
Though it carries little fantasy significance, Derek Hagen has been much more impressive in camp and appears to be taking over the flanker spot from Ernest Wilford.
Player Change Now Date
Marvin Harrison 31 08-03-08
Harrison isn't supposed to play in the HOF game tonight but reports are that he is running and cutting and should be ready to go. He still remains a huge risk with undeniable (if not optimistic) upside. His ranking reflects that he should be anything more than a WR3 on your team but he is being drafted earlier than that by speculative team owners.
Player Change Now Date
Panthers wideouts NA 08-02-08
Steve Smith has been suspended for the first two games by the team and that shifts the rankings around slightly. Smith could be no less effective when he returns and may even be more motivated, but he just lost 13% of his games this year.
Player Change Now Date
Raiders wideouts NA 08-02-08
ESPN reported that Javon Walker wanted to retire but was talked into remaining with the Raiders. He hasn't looked very good so far and this bombshell should spell "leave alone" for fantasy owners.
Player Change Now Date
Joe Jurevicius 141 07-21-08
Since Jurevicius is expected to open the season on the PUP list because of his knee, he drops deeply and is not worth drafting. Josh Cribbs is the most likely to assume the #3 role but that will shake out during training camp.
Player Change Now Date
Jerry Porter 32 07-21-08
Porter had to undergo surgery to repair a torn hamstring and is expected to miss the entire preseason as he heals. That certainly dings him since he needs the time with Garrard. He is hoped to be back in time for week one but as the date draws near, his ranking is more likely to drop than to rise. This ranking is more about what he could do for your team later in the year.
