Every fantasy football season the calls for contract year players start to come in. Many fantasy owners seek out those players they fell will give an "extra effort" during the final year of their contract, in the hopes of a big payday the next year. The actual numbers may or may not prove this theory to be true, but for those who believe in the contract year theory you will find a list below.
Keep in mind this year that the off-season status of these players may change depending on the status of a new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). If there is no extention of the Agreement then the number of years a player needs to be eligible for unrestricted free agency will increase from four to six. So if not extended many players who would have been unrestricted next year will in fact be restricted.
The curent odds are in favor of a deal on the CBA being struck before the final year of the existing deal in 2010. But even if that doesn't happen, a contract year is a contract year and the players below will enter this season under that assumption. So it's safe to assume that these players will operate as if this is the final year of their contract.
The list this year is peppered with big fantasy names at every position, QB Rivers, RB Parker and WR Edwards to name a few. Keep in mind that some of the players listed, like QB Matt Cassel did this off-season, may receive a new long-term deal before the season starts or even during the season. Others, like former free agent WR Terrell Owens, may find themselves on this list by signing 1-year deals for this season.
