One of the most frustrating parts of DFS is not being able to fit all of your star players under the designated salary. Each week The Huddle will look at several value picks and sleepers at each position that could help you free up some valuable cap space for the studs you want to play.
JARED GOFF, QB, RAMS
Website | Cost | % of Cap | #1’s % of Cap |
---|---|---|---|
FanDuel | $6700 | 11.1% | 14.5% |
DraftKings | $5000 | 10% | 14.8% |
There aren’t many quarterbacks sitting at an affordable range (9-11%) this week so we’ll look at cheap prices with ideal matchups. Two weeks ago was definitely Goff’s coming out party against the Saints – a favorable matchup for a young quarterback. Last week he looked more like a rookie against the Patriots, but this week Goff takes on the Atlanta Falcons who have given up more points to fantasy quarterbacks than any team in the NFL. The Huddle has Goff projected to put up 220 yards with 2 TDs and 1 INT, which would be an improvement over Alex Smith’s 270 yards with 1 TD that he posted last week against the Falcons. For 10-11% of your salary, the upside is pretty good.
BRYCE PETTY, QB, JETS
Website | Cost | % of Cap | #1’s % of Cap |
---|---|---|---|
FanDuel | $6100 | 10.1% | 14.5% |
DraftKings | $5000 | 10% | 14.8% |
An ugly pick, for sure. But last week Barkley put up almost 200 yards on San Francisco in a snow storm. The 49ers have the 24th ranked passing defense in the NFL and Petty has plenty of weapons at his disposal. Fitzpatrick is done for the year, and head coach Todd Bowles isn’t ready to see what Christian Hackenberg can do. For 10% in both FD and DK leagues, Petty is a huge gamble but the price point is very attractive. I think he’s good for 200 yards, 2 TDs and 1 INT against the 49ers come Sunday.
Other Considerations: The price point on Carson Wentz has fallen a lot over the course of the last few weeks, despite some decent production. Against a tough Bengals secondary he put up 300 yards, 1 TD and 3 INTS. This week he takes on Washington’s middle of the road pass defense. Anticipate 225 yards for 2 TD and 1 INT.
ROBERT KELLEY, RB, WASHINGTON
Website | Cost | % of Cap | #1’s % of Cap |
---|---|---|---|
FanDuel | $5900 | 9.8% | 16.1% |
DraftKings | $4200 | 8.4% | 19.6% |
After an increase in price, Kelley’s cost has come back down as he prepares to take on the Philadelphia Eagles. He’s also come down from his 20+ carries per game that he had been receiving to 14 each of the last two games, with 6 targets over the last four weeks. This week however, the Huddle is projecting 90 total yards with a TD for Kelley as Washington continues to fight for a playoff spot, trailing behind the Cowboys and the Giants. Kelley has had two tough matchups over the past two weeks, but he is still receiving the bulk of the load in Jay Gruden’s offense. He’s a great RB2 option with RB1 upside this week, coming in at 2/3 the cost of Le’Veon Bell.
JUSTIN FORSETT, RB, BRONCOS
Website | Cost | % of Cap | #1’s % of Cap |
---|---|---|---|
FanDuel | $4500 | 7.5% | 16.1% |
DraftKings | N/A | N/A | 19.6% |
The Broncos claimed Forsett off of waivers this week, and he is already practicing with the team. Head Coach Gary Kubiak coached Forsett in Baltimore, so he is already familiar with the offense. Kubiak said Forsett will play against the Titans on Sunday and split carries with Devontae Booker. It’s a weird situation – Forsett’s price tag in Fan Duel is the lowest it can be at 7.5% and he isn’t available in Draft Kings lineups because of his free agent status when prices were released. While I wouldn’t anticipate anything huge from Forsett against the Titans, 5-10 carries for 50 yards and a potential touchdown isn’t unfathomable if he remembers the offense like Kubiak claims. Very deep sleeper, with some potential upside.
Other Considerations: Frank Gore continues to climb the all-time rush list as he rounds out an impressive career with the Colts. Despite his YPC average dropping below 4.0 for the first time in his career when he joined the Colts, they continue to give him to opportunities to pound the rock at a very affordable price. He has over 15 touches a game the past four weeks, and I like his potential this week against a banged up Houston defense.
MALCOLM MITCHELL, WR, PATRIOTS
Website | Cost | % of Cap | #1’s % of Cap |
---|---|---|---|
FanDuel | $6200 | 10.3% | 14.8% |
DraftKings | $4200 | 8.4% | 17.8% |
Mitchell has quickly become a go-to target for Tom Brady in the Patriots’ offense, earning 22 targets and 3 TDs over the past three weeks. With TE Rob Gronkowski out for the season, it makes sense that his numbers would go to someone else – and Mitchell has been productive outlet. Last week Mitchell saw more snaps on offense than Julian Edleman. This week Mitchell comes in at a very comfortable WR2 price in FD and WR3 in Draft Kings – worth the value in both as his production is likely to trend upward now with Gronk’s absence. This week the Huddle has Mitchell projected to finish with 80 yards and a TD against the Baltimore Ravens.
ADAM THIELEN, WR, VIKINGS
Website | Cost | % of Cap | #1’s % of Cap |
---|---|---|---|
FanDuel | $6000 | 10% | 14.8% |
DraftKings | $4700 | 9.4% | 17.8% |
Another emerging star, Thielen has 20 targets in two weeks from Sam Bradford. While the matchup is tough this week (the Jaguars give up the 5th fewest points to opposing fantasy WRs), he hasn’t seen the end zone in either of his last two games – so he is due. 7 catches for 70 yards and a TD isn’t out of the question for the 6’3” WR out of Minnesota State University. He’s a little more pricey in Draft Kings matchups, which I don’t love – I think Mitchell is the better deal at 8.4% as opposed to Thielen’s 9.4% – but in Fan Duel lineups, I think 10% is the perfect price for him this week with the potential output.
JEREMY MACLIN, WR, CHIEFS
Website | Cost | % of Cap | #1’s % of Cap |
---|---|---|---|
FanDuel | $5800 | 9.6% | 14.8% |
DraftKings | $5100 | 10.2% | 17.8% |
Maclin hasn’t seen the field in some time, making him the perfect value pick heading into a Thursday night showdown with the Oakland Raiders. The Raiders’ secondary has been generous to opposing wide receivers, and the last time Maclin faced the Silver and Black was their last loss of the season. In that matchup he had 3 catches for 49 yards and wasn’t able to find the end zone. This week, Maclin comes in at under 10% of your salary in Fan Duel lineups, making him a great upside WR3. In Draft Kings lineups your salary is better served going towards a more reliable pick like Mitchell or Thielen.
VANCE MCDONALD, TE, 49ERS
Website | Cost | % of Cap | #1’s % of Cap |
---|---|---|---|
FanDuel | $4700 | 7.8% | 12.5% |
DraftKings | $3000 | 6% | 12% |
The Jets give up decent points to opposing TEs, and as the 49ers try to fix… whatever that was that we saw last week, McDonald will play a big role in that. With no stand out WR1 on the roster, McDonald has been moving the chains when it counts for San Francisco, getting 24 targets over the last four weeks. The 9ers are sticking with Kaepernick for another week at least, and he will continue to look McDonald’s way as he scrambles. The Huddle has him projected at 50 yards and 1 TD this week, and at half the cost of Jordan Reed – I love the savings.
Other Considerations: Dwayne Allen is probably not going to have another 3 TD game any time soon, but in the meantime – he looks to continue being a favorite target of Andrew Luck’s in the red zone. His price tag continues to stay low because of a very crowded receiving corps, and the Texans play tough against TE’s – but maybe lightening will strike twice?
