Daily value plays and bargain basements: Week 17

Everyone knows to start studs in DFS. What can bring home the money in is finding players who will produce at a lower salary that might not be on many lineup cards. Each week we’ll release our top DFS value plays and bargain basement plays to help fill out your lineups.

Week 16 Recap (Points are based on DraftKings scoring)

Jared Goff: 29.4
Tyrod Taylor: 12.8

Jonathan Stewart: 2.8
Dion Lewis: 35.3

Cooper Kupp: 16.5
Keelan Cole: 19.8

Eric Ebron: 19.3

Redskins: 14.0
Panthers: 19.0

Kirk Cousins, Washington Redskins ($6,200 DraftKings) ($7,600 FanDuel)

Cousins is coming off a strong game against the Broncos. He threw for 299 yards, three touchdowns and an interception, while scoring 23.8 DraftKings points. It’s hard not to like Cousins again this week given his salary and opponent.

Cousins will be facing a Giants defense that allows the most fantasy points (20) to opposing quarterbacks. New York has allowed nine touchdown passes in its last three games. In two of those games, the Giants faced backup quarterbacks (Nick Foles, Drew Stanton).

Cousins has the 12th highest salary among quarterbacks this week on DraftKings. He may be the best value play at any position for Week 17.

Bargain Basement Play

Jacoby Brissett, Indianapolis Colts ($5,500 DraftKings) ($6,600 FanDuel)

Brissett hasn’t been a great DFS option of late. He last topped 15 DK points back in Week 10. Brissett has thrown just two touchdown passes in his last three games.

Brissett has scored 20+ points just three times this season. Even though the stats aren’t encouraging on paper, there is a reason to be high on Brissett for Week 17. The reason is he’s facing the Texans defense. Houston is allowing the third most fantasy points to quarterbacks. The Texans pass defense has allowed 552 yards and five touchdowns in its last two games.

There are better options at quarterback this week but not many have a better matchup. Brissett is a low-cost quarterback you can build a strong DFS roster around.

Running Backs

Derrick Henry, Tennessee Titans ($5,500 DraftKings) ($5,800 FanDuel)

DeMarco Murray is dealing with an MCL tear. The Titans are hoping he can play on Sunday in a “limited role.” Even if Murray is active, Henry will be the primary ball carrier going up against a beatable Jaguars rushing defense.

Jacksonville’s pass defense is still the best in the NFL, even after playing uncharacteristically poor last week. However, the Jaguars rush defense has struggled at times this season. Jacksonville is giving up 98 rushing yards per game. In their first meeting back in Week 2, Henry rushed for 92 yards and a touchdown on just 14 carries.

Marcus Mariota isn’t going to beat the Jaguars defense by throwing the ball all game. Look for the Titans to lean heavily on Henry with Murray being extremely limited at best on Sunday.

Bargain Basement Play

Kapri Bibbs, Washington Redskins ($3,700 DraftKings) ($5,400 FanDuel)

The Redskins have reached the point where they may literally be down to one healthy running back. Samaje Perine left last week’s game with an Achilles injury. He came into the game battling a groin injury.

With Perine questionable to play and every other Redskins running back out for the season, Bibbs could be in line for a heavy workload against a Giants defense allowing the ninth-most fantasy points to running backs. New York’s defense has allowed at least 70 yards rushing to a running back nine times this year.

Bibbs’ value is tied to Perine’s health. If Perine is inactive on Sunday, Bibbs is a strong play at his low salary.

Wide Receivers

T.Y. Hilton, Indianapolis Colts ($5,900 DraftKings) ($6,700 FanDuel)

Hilton is coming off a strong game against the Ravens where he caught 6 of 12 targets for 100 yards. He has one of the best matchups of any receiver in Week 17.

The Texans defense has been fade material versus receivers all season. Houston is allowing the second most fantasy points to wide receivers. The Texans have allowed five touchdowns to the position in their last two games.

The last time the two teams met back in Week 9, Hilton had his best fantasy outing of the season. He caught five passes for 175 yards and two touchdowns. Hilton scored 37.5 DK points. A Brissett/Hilton stack is a low-priced option to consider for Week 17.

Bargain Basement Play

Keelan Cole, Jacksonville Jaguars ($5,700 DraftKings) ($5,900 FanDuel)

Cole continued his red-hot finish to the season last week when he caught 6 of 13 targets for 108 yards against the 49ers. Cole has now recorded at least 99 yards receiving in three straight games. He’s scored a touchdown in three of his last four games.

This week Cole faces a Titans pass defense allowing the 10th most fantasy points to receivers. Tennessee has given up at least six receptions to a receiver 10 times this season. Last week against the Rams, Jared Goff threw four touchdown passes against the Titans with Cooper Kupp and Sammy Watkins each catching one of them.

Cole has been targeted 22 times in his last two games. He should once again be a big part of the Jaguars passing game this week in a favorable matchup.

Tight Ends

Antonio Gates, Los Angeles Chargers ($4,200 DraftKings) ($5,700 FanDuel)

Gates hasn’t done much in his final season but he came alive last week with Hunter Henry out for the year. He caught six passes for 81 yards and a touchdown. Gates is playing his final regular season games with the Chargers on Sunday against the Raiders.

The matchup is right for Gates to go out with a bang. The Raiders are allowing the seventh most fantasy points to tight ends. Oakland’s defense has given up at least 74 yards receiving seven times this season. Zach Ertz just lit up the Raiders for 9 catches and 81 yards on 14 targets last week.

Gates will not only be playing his last game for Chargers on Sunday but it will be in front of a home crowd. Considering his matchup and situation, Gates is a strong tight end value play this week.

No Play for Week 17.

Defense/Special Teams

Washington Redskins ($3,200 DraftKings) ($4,600 FanDuel)

We gave out the Redskins defense last week and they delivered with four sacks, an interception and two fumble recoveries. In its last three games, Washington’s defense has recorded 11 sacks, three interceptions, three fumble recoveries and scored a touchdown. They have another strong matchup this week against a Giants offense allowing the eighth most fantasy points to team defenses. The Redskins defense is a top play at a reasonable salary against a Giants team that packed it in a long time ago.

Bargain Basement Play

Buffalo Bills ($3,000 DraftKings) ($4,500 FanDuel)

The Bills defense has been hit or miss this year. In Week 15 against the Dolphins, they hit by scoring 10.0 DK points. In that game, Buffalo’s defense recorded three interceptions and three sacks. The Dolphins allow the sixth-most fantasy points to team defenses. The Bills are playing to get into the play against an offense that gives up just over 10 fantasy points to opposing defenses. Start them with confidence.
